After a two-week break, smoke from Canadian wildfires will unfortunately make another appearance across Michiana this weekend.
A strong cold front will move through the area on Saturday, opening the door for smoke to fill Michiana skies once again on Sunday.
Air quality is forecast to decrease into the orange AQI category, or “unhealthy for sensitive groups” by Sunday afternoon. People with heart or lung disease, older adults, children, and teens should choose less strenuous activities or shorten the amount of active time outdoors.
Michiana experienced its worst air quality ever recorded last month as thick smoke made AQI values top 240.
While forecasting smoke can be challenging, the active weather pattern should help the smoke move out sooner rather than later.
