NOW: Winamac businesses recovering from storm damage, flooding from Tuesday

WINAMAC, Ind. -- Businesses along US-35 in Winamac saw the worst from Tuesday’s relentless storms.

Trucks from the Chrysler dealership were drowned in water up to each bumper; Peak Community services had to evacuate their facility because of water getting inside, and the VFW Winamac Post 1728 is still working on drying the inside of their building.

VFW bartender, Kelsie Gainer says she has never seen such a heavy wave of rain hit time and time again, forcing organizations like hers to close for multiple days.

“We have never had it come in like it had,” Gainer said. “We spent the past few days cleaning up the water, trying to dry it out, and we are still in the process with all of that.”

The county remains under a travel advisory as of Thursday night warning of possible restrictions due to flooding.
