Windy start to Wednesday; rain starts this afternoon

A messy system is on the way to Michiana for today and Thursday.

This morning is dry but windy. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible today. We’ll see temperatures soar near 50 degrees this afternoon. With the mild temperatures, when precipitation starts today, it will be rain.

A few showers are possible starting around 3 p.m. Rain will become more widespread late tonight. Pockets of moderate to heavy rain are possible. This rain, combined with melting snow, could create flood concerns across Michiana.

Rain continues into early Thursday morning. As temperatures drop from the 30s to the 20s, rain will turn to a wintry mix, then snow by Thursday evening.

The northwest portion of Michiana will have the highest snow totals Thursday evening. Portions of Michiana could see minor ice accumulations from wintry mix, before snow starts to accumulate on top of the ice.

The system moves out late Thursday evening, however, a few lake effect snow showers could continue into early Friday morning.

Temperatures stay below freezing Friday, so any water leftover from this system gets icy, making a slippery Friday a.m. commute.

Temperatures rebound over the weekend with quiet conditions expected until Monday night.

Today: Windy and cloudy. PM rain. High 50.

Tonight: Rain and wind. Low 38.

Thursday: Rain/snow. Temperatures in the 30s fall to the 20s by afternoon.

Friday: Mostly sunny. High 26.
