Woman arrested for OWI after driving car into Paw Paw Lake
COLOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A woman was arrested for OWI after she allegedly drove her car into Paw Paw Lake early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., Coloma Township officers responded to a 911 call about a vehicle in the lake.
When they arrived to the area of Maple Court and Maple Drive, they found the vehicle approximately 50-feet offshore between the mouth of the channel and the lake.
The driver, a 46-year-old woman, had been pulled from the water by a friend who witnessed the accident.
The witness said he and the woman just left a bar and were headed home when she turned down Maple Court, a dead end drive.
The witness said the woman drove through a yard, around a wooden dock, over a concrete barrier and onto the frozen channel.
She allegedly drove about 100-feet, turned around and drove about 200-feet in the other direction, according to the witness.
As the vehicle exited the channel and onto Paw Paw Lake, the vehicle crashed through the frozen water into the lake.
The witness helped the woman from the water.
Officers arrested the woman after she failed sobriety tests, reports said.
At the jail, the suspect had a BAC of .18, according to reports.
The woman's 2007 Chevy Equinox is still in the lake and will likely be removed on Friday.
