Woman dies in Berrien County rollover crash

A Benton Harbor woman has died after a fatal crash on U.S. 31 in Berrien County Sunday. 

Michigan State Police say the vehicle driven by a 19-year-old, went off of the roadway for unknown reasons and rolled over multiple times approximately a half mile south of Lake Chapin Road. 

One of the passengers, 84-year-old Ruby Johnson of Benton Harbor, was pronounced dead after being transported to Lake Hospital. 

The driver and three other passengers were also transported to the hospital for treatment. 

Officials say alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the accident, but the lack of seat belt use could have contributed to the seriousness of injuries. 

The crash remains under investigation.
