Woman has medical emergency, drives Jeep into lake

ELKHART, Ind.— The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says a 48-year-old Michigan woman was driving northbound on SR-19 when her vehicle left the roadway due to unknown reasons.

According to authorities, the Terina Vail's vehicle struck the residence of 51400 SR 19 and continued traveling down the embankment.

Her Jeep hit a tree before entering Simonton Lake and becoming partially submerged.

The woman, who was found unconscious and not breathing was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Sheriffs say a medical issue was determined to be the cause of the accident.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage to its roof and water damage from being in the lake.
