Woman killed in crash on Indiana Toll Road in La Porte County

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A Hammond woman was killed in a two vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The crash happened near the 52 mile marker in the eastbound lanes.

A Peterbilt semi driven by a man from Colorado was in the left lane passing a slower moving semi when a Ford Explorer attempted to pass in the right lane and cut in front of the Peterbilt, according to Indiana State Police.

The driver of the Explorer, 66-year-old Jeanine Wallace, lost control of her vehicle and was struck by the Peterbilt semi.

Wallace's vehicle struck a guardrail, went airborne, struck a bridge abutment and came to a rest in the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes.

Wallace was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
