Woman suffers self-inflicted gunshot to the foot

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 22-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after she suffered a gunshot wound to her foot, according to Benton Charter Township Police.

Police were called to the Red Roof Inn on Mall Drive at 8:30 Monday morning to investigate a shooting.

When they arrived, they located the 22-year-old victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the foot.

During their investigation, they learned the wound was self-inflicted.

Police recovered a semi-automatic handgun involved in the incident.
