Woman wakes up to find man breaking her bedroom window
ELKHART, Ind. – A woman called police after someone tried to break into her bedroom while she was sleeping, according to Elkhart Police.
Around 6 a.m. Sunday police responded to the 1000 block of Baker Drive after someone broke the bedroom window while the victim was sleeping.
The victim said she was asleep when she heard someone banging on the window. At some point the window broke and a hand could be seen reaching into the room, the victim told police.
When police arrived, they located a man walking near a purple Scion parked nearby with the driver’s door open.
The man walked across the street to a silver Dodge Ram parked in the driveway of a home near the victim’s and got into the rear passenger seat.
When police spoke with him, the man said he was staying at the house. The resident confirmed the man was his cousin and was spending the night, reports said.
Police also noticed the detached garage at the victim’s home had been entered. The overhead door was open and the car inside had been rummaged through, police said.
Oscar Cortez, 18, was taken into custody on preliminary charges of burglary and minor consumption of alcohol.
