ELKHART, Ind. --  The Woodlawn Nature Center is celebrating 60 years of connection, discovery, and connection on Saturday, November 1, from 11 a.m to 2 p.m.

The City of Elkhart is inviting the community to celebrate 6 decades of nature, education, and exploration at the Woodlawn Center. The celebration will have family-friendly activities, guided hikes, and local food trucks. A special proclimation ceremony will take place at 12 p.m.

In 1964, the Woodlawn Nature Council, a non-profit organization started by Dorothy Greenleaf Boyton, was founded to develop and manage a nature park on 10 acres of forest land. A year later, the council dedicated the center and the land to the City of Elkhart.

The event is free and open to the public, and visitors are encouraged to explore the trails, visit with staff, and learn more about the programs and opportunities available at the center year-round.
