Work release inmate arrested after accident

A LaPorte County work release inmate was arrested after deputies say he left the scene of a property damage accident Tuesday. 

Police say Jason Hurt of La Porte was driving erratically when he hit a tree, and nearly hit a house. 

The car ended up in a corn field nearby.

Police say Hurt fled and when confronted by police at the work release center, denied any involvement. 

He then changed his story and told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel, panicked and then drove off.
