NILES, Mich. – The YMCA of Greater Michiana is kicking off the summer season with backyard swim lessons. Certified instructors of the Y teach lessons in the comfort and convenience of homeowner’s pools.
The program focuses on instilling confidence for people of all ages when surrounded by water. Specifically, water that they are frequently near. The students range anywhere for 6 months old to adults. For those who live near water, lakefront lessons are also an option.
Last year, the Y was completely shut down due to the pandemic causing many families to rely on backyard lessons. Instructors once again are finding this year people are seeking an ‘at home’ option.
“More so this year, we are seeing an influx in requests for backyard lessons, it is in the safety of their pool, they do not feel comfortable coming here yet, so we will come to them,” says Samantha Schaller, Senior Aquatics and Sports Director.
