Your holiday trash could make you a burglary target
If you found expensive electronics under your tree this holiday season, it could make you a victim of a home burglary if you are not careful.
Thieves can know what you got for Christmas all by what you put in your trash.
A thief may be enticed to break into your home if you leave things like a big screen TV box outside of your home. Instead, cut the box into smaller pieces, put into black trash bags and then put in your trash can. They could also be recycled.
Another option is to update your insurance policy to include pricey items received over the holidays or purchase warranties for expensive electronics.
According to a Safe Wise report, a burglary happens in the United States about every 18 seconds and studies show this time of year is prime time due to people leaving their homes unattended during the holidays.
Another helpful tip is to pay attention to any lurking vehicle driving around your street or neighborhood. Any suspicious activity should be reported to police.
