YOUR VOICE, YOUR VOTE: Tracking Indiana state rep. district 20 primary election

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- ABC57 reached out to Rep. Jim Pressel several times over the past week through his political action committee, “Friends of Jim Pressel," his website, social media, and the Indiana GOP to hear is priorities for district 20 but never heard back or received a statement.

Pressel’s most recent push within the state was house enrolled act 1200, a bill he wrote which cracks down on CDL truck licenses held by illegal immigrants. This past term, Pressel was assigned to the state’s Transportation and Roads Committee with past campaign promises of addressing road problems in the district.

Pressel was also added to the Utilities Energy and Telecommunications Committee in 2025. He co-authored house enrolled act 10-02, legislation that aims to hold regional utilities accountable for hitting benchmarks tied to lowering rates. Pressel’s opponent, Juanita Haney, says it hasn’t been enough.

Haney said, “We can’t afford this – and that’s what I’m hearing in my district – they’re struggling… There’s a lot of trackers on the bill that have no oversight. I think it would be good to get a review on all of those trackers before they’re just stuck on your bill.”
