Elkhart County crash takes out power lines

ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police Department officials were called to the intersection of South Main Street and East Lusher Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, in response to a crash.

According to officials the crash took place around 12:30 in the afternoon when a motorist was attempting to turn right onto Lusher from Main.

EPD states that the driver hit a fire hydrant, traffic sign, and utility pole while trying to make that turn.

Officials say that the utility pole being struck caused wires to fall, making the intersection a hazard to drivers.

The Elkhart Police Department opened alternate routes in the area of South Main Street and East Lusher Avenue for several hours in order for crews to make the necessary repairs.
