CASS COUNTY, Mich., --- Cass County officials are investigating a New Year’s Eve car crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old.

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports his Deputies responded to the fatal crash on Dailey Road near Pokagon Highway around 8:34 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Authorities said 57-year-old Trevor David Nelson of Edwardsburg stopped his vehicle halfway on the shoulder of the roadway in the south bound lane to strap an alliance on his car, 18-year-old Trevor Kyle Nelson was helping him when another driver --- 49-year-old Richard Burpee was driving south on Dailey Road and struck their vehicle.

The 18-year-old died on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
