SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A 19-year-old woman was allegedly beaten up, thrown into an unknown vehicle and sexually assaulted on South Bend's south side.
The incident was reported to South Bend Police just after 7:00 Sunday morning, but it’s still unclear what time the crime actually occurred.
It started just off the intersection of Donald and Miami Streets. According to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, a woman was walking down a nearby alley when two men approached her, beat her up and put her in a car and drove off. She told Police she was then sexually assaulted, but was eventually able to run away.
So far police have no information about suspects.
We spoke to people in the neighborhood and no one reported seeing anything out of the ordinary Sunday morning. We even found a homeowner with surveillance cameras pointed on the alley, who says his cameras picked up nothing.
Police say the crime has been handed over to the Special Victims Unit.
If you have any information about this incident -- call South Bend Police at 574-235-9201, the Special Victims Unit at 574-235-7818 or Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP.
ABC57 asked if officers will be stepping up patrols in that area. The department says everyone on that beat and who works nearby has been notified of what happened.
