2 Inmates escape prison through kitchen roof

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. -- Monday, two inmates from Henry County Indiana are back behind bars after they escaped from prison and were on the run for nearly 12 hours.

Police say the two inmates climbed through a hole in the roof.

The sheriff says Michael Bertram and Johnny Dennis knocked a hole in the ceiling using a kitchen knife.

"He was able to remove the roof. A sheet of plywood, push it up enough he could crawl out and then there's metal siding that he was able to remove and get out on the roof," said Henry County Sheriff Butch Baker.

The sheriff says he has interviewed the four employees who were working at the jail overnight.

The escapees were gone for about 30 minutes before the absence was noticed on surveillance cameras.
