2012 Atlantic hurricane season classified as 'above normal'

Friday marks the end of the hurricane season.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, this year's Atlantic hurricane season produced 19 named storms. The average is usually 12.

Hurricane Isaac was one of 10 named storms that was also a hurricane. Only one storm became a major hurricane.

Based on all that activity, the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season has been classified as “above normal.”
