2023 Four Winds Golf Invitational names two sponsor exemptions
SOUTH Bend, Ind. - The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and it's Four Wind Casinos have named their two sponsor exemptions for the 2023 Four Winds Invitational: Michelle Piyapattra and Erica Shepherd.
Both women are recognized as up-and-coming players who will play against professionals in the most established qualifying tour in the world.
The Four Winds Invitational is a qualifier for the LPGA tour, the world's leading competitive destination for female professional golfers.
Piyapattra, originally from Eastvale, Calif., won six individual titles playing Division I golf at Columbia University. She's currently assisting the women's golf coach at Cal State Fullerton and works for FORE Hire, aiming to create opportunities for players and organizations through golf.
"I really wanted to play in this year's event since I was in contention the final round last year and just wasn't able to make a move on the last day," Piyapattra said.
Shepherd, a Hoosier from Greenwood, Ind., graduated from Duke University where she was the 11th Blue Devil to collect three or more top-15 finishes in the NCAA regional.
Shepherd is excited to play in her home state.
"Playing in the 2023 Four Wind Invitational will provide me with invaluable experience as I prepare for Q-school in late August," she said.
Greg Helmkamp, the General Manager and Head Gold Professional at South Bend County Club spoke of his excitement to host Piyapattra and Shepherd.
"Both Michelle and Erica have a passion for the sport and proven tournament performance to compete with the best players on the Epson Tour."
The tournament will take place on Thursday, August 10 through Saturday, August 12 at the South Bend Country Club.
