Niles City Council approves solar power agreements

NILES, Mich. -- The Niles City Council has now approved several agreements regarding solar power.

The agreements have had plans for several years now and will combat volatile transmission costs.

"So, the state of Michigan has had some requirements in which we have progressive stages over the course of the next 10 years in which we have to reach almost 100% renewables for all of the power that we provide for the city," said Maidson Mosher, the utilities manager.

She continues to say, "we have a site plan that's already been constructed, so now we're also going to be working on interconnection and the type of facilities that may be needed in order to interconnect this, the solar project to our system itself."

Although the plan is still set to be done in a couple of years they hope to start working on land prep as soon as possible.
