21-year-old driver dies in crash on Centreville-Constantine Road Tuesday morning
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. – A driver has died following a one-vehicle crash along Centreville-Constantine Road Tuesday morning, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At 7:50 a.m., deputies responded to the crash scene on Centreville-Constantine Road between Roys and Sevison Roads.
A preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling southwest along Centreville-Constantine Road before it crossed the center line and drove off the left side of the road.
The vehicle hit multiple trees before coming to a stop.
The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man, was extricated after being trapped in the driver’s seat unresponsive.
Medical personnel attempted life-saving efforts but the driver was pronounced dead on scene.
Investigators found a 1-year-old child uninjured in the backseat. The child was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
The child was found properly secured in the seat.
Deputies believe speed was a factor in the crash.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to reports.
This is an ongoing investigation.
