4-year-old airlifted to hospital after being hit by vehicle

The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an injury accident after a 4-year-old boy had to be airlifted to the hospital.

The accident happened Tuesday on County Road 700 South around noon.

Police say a horse and buggy were traveling in front of a vehicle, driven by 51-year-old Elizabeth Bontrager of Topeka, when she attempted to pass the buggy.

A 4-year-old boy then ran across the roadway into the path of Bontrager while she was attempting to pass.

Police say Bontrager tried to slow down but was not able to avoid hitting the boy.

He was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center for his injuries.
