600 teachers, students sick from flu

On Monday, nearly 600 students and teachers called in sick from the Oak Park School District following the district-wide flu outbreak.

All schools in the district were affected by the flu, and as a result, ten elementary and middle schools were scrubbed down and disinfected.

School officials are hoping the deep cleaning will stop the flu from spreading.

“The key is really getting into the classrooms and the lunchroom where the kids are interacting the most with each other; where they're coughing, they're sneezing, they're touching papers and desks and chairs and lunch tables,” says school district spokesman Chris Jasculca.

The outbreak comes a week after a similar problem in LaGrange.

Health experts want to remind everyone to stay at home if you start to experience flu-like symptoms.
