74-year-old woman dies after being hit by car in Benton Township

UPDATE: Benton Harbor City Commissioner Ron Singleton confirmed to ABC57 News he was the driver involved in the fatal pedestrian crash.

ORIGINAL: BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Benton Charter Township Police Department reports officers responded to the intersection of E. Napier Avenue and Milton Street for a crash involving a car and pedestrian on Monday around 8:31 p.m.

The report states upon arrival officers found a 74-year-old Benton Harbor woman who had been struck by a car while attempting to cross the road.

The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment but died soon after.

The driver of the car, a 68-year-old Benton Harbor man, was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Berrien County Sheriff's Department Accident Reconstruction Team was requested to assist with the scene.
