7th annual Tip Off for Heart held Wednesday at Notre Dame

The 7th annual Tip Off for Heart was held Wednesday at Purcell Pavilion on the Notre Dame campus. The event is hosted by Mike Brey's Men of Heart and the American Heart Association.

The event is a fundraiser and is an opportunity to educate the participants about heart disease, the number one killer of men nationwide.

The cause is personal for men's basketball Head Coach Mike Brey, who has been diagnosed with heart disease.

After the participants play basketball and go through drills, they will get expert advice on reducing blood pressure and making heart healthy choices in life.

According to the American Heart Association 2,300 Americans die from heart disease every day and 92 million Americans are living with some form of heart disease.

“Anything we can do to help educate the group of guys we have tell him a little more about living healthier exercising nutrition and all of those things it’s a good thing," Coach Brey said.

After the workout on the court is over and the guys get advice from doctors, nutritionists and Notre Dame trainers, the men will attend "Soiree with Brey" a fundraising dinner featuring heart healthy foods and a silent auction.
