Detroit, MI -- An 81-year-old metro Detroit woman was scammed out of $43,000 from a caller claiming to be an IRS agent.
Now, the IRS wants to offer you a few reminders to avoid a similar scam as taxpayers are nearing the deadline to complete their returns.
The IRS is telling people to look out for any calls that demand immediate payment or if they ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
Also, they say to watch out for the callers threatening to bring in local police.
