9-year-old boy on bicycle involved in crash on CR 500

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind.—A 9-year-old boy on a bicycle was involved in a crash on C.R. 500 W. on August 15, according to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department.

According to police, a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling northbound on C.R. 500 W near 2935 N around 1:39 p.m. when the driver did not see a bicyclist, also traveling northbound, on the side of the road.

The Suburban struck the bicyclist in the back of the head with the passenger side’s rear-view mirror, police said.

The bicyclist, a 9-year-old boy from Shipshewana, then flipped over the top of the handle bars and landed on the side of the road.

Police said 9-year-old complained of head pain and suffered minor cuts and bruises. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Suburban, a 64-year-old male from Shipshewana, did not report any injuries.
