Home Run Derby to raise money for new shoes for local kids
PAW PAW, Mich. -- Summer Baseball Program Instructional Baseball and Softball will host its first annual Home Run Derby charity event on Saturday and Sunday.
The event will raise funds to purchase new shoes for community kids in K-5th grade. The derby is open to kids ages 6-12.
Organizers say if you think your kid is the best in Southwest Michigan, register them to hit some home runs while raising money for a good cause.
It's $5 to register your child. You can register here. Fees will be collected the day of the derby.
First through fourth place will get trophies, while the rest get medals.
Kids ages 6-8 will be based on how many home runs they can get in one minute with the ball hand pitched. The home run line will be marked at 100 feet.
Kids ages 9-12 will have the home run line at 140 feet with one minute and thirty seconds to hit as many home runs as possible. The ball will also be hand pitched.
Organizers say all genders can compete.
All bats used must be USA Baseball, USSA Bat approved, and all bats will be inspected prior to competition.
Metal and wooden bats are allowed.
All helmets must have all original stickers and cannot be painted or modified. All helmets will be inspected prior to competition.
There are only 150 spots available.
The derby will be on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It will be played in the back fields at Performance Field House at 1027 E Michigan Ave. in Paw Paw.
