A vigil held for 12-year-old gunshot victim
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A vigil will be held in remembrance of 12-year-old Josiah Small, who passed away following a shooting on October 27.
Small was a student at Dickinson Fine Arts Academy.
In the wake of his death, South Bend leaders, community members and the South Bend Community School Corporation, mourn his loss and endeavor to do more to combat gun violence in the city.
"Gun violence continues to cast a dark shadow over our community, and it is imperative that we unite to put an end to these senseless acts," said SBCSC's Superintendent, C. Todd Cummings, PhD in a press release.
The following school week, Dickinson Fine Arts Academy's principal and school staff provided support to students, family and staff, including bringing counselors and social workers from Oaklawn Mental Health.
"We call up upon our community partners to walk alongside us," said Tessa Sutton, the head of Student Services with South Bend Community Schools.
A vigil will be held for Small on Thursday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m., at 1505 Lincolnway West, South Bend.
The public is invited to attend, offer condolences and pay their respects.
A Go Fund Me has been set up to cover funeral and burial costs.
