UPDATE 2:  This week, ABC57 is celebrating the life and legacy of our late anchor Jennifer Copeland and her dedication to helping young journalists.

Tomorrow night, May 13, the first ever Jennifer Copeland Memorial Scholarship Dinner is being held at the South Bend Cubs' new 11/11 Club. If you can't make it in-person, there are still ways to participate.

The silent auction for the event is live online and open to the public.

All you have to do is click this link to make a bid.

Items up for auction include new luxury suites at Four Winds Field, original artwork featuring the legendary four horsemen of Notre Dame, donations from local restaurants and shops, and more.

Again, you do not need to be present to bid in the silent auction or make a donation.

UPDATE: As of April 29, the very first recipient of the newly established Jennifer Copeland Memorial College Scholarship was announced by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County.

Inside South Bend Riley High School is a young woman hoping to follow in the footsteps of beloved ABC57 News anchor Jennifer Copeland.

Meghan Freitag is editor of the school newspaper, senior class president, has a 4.0 grade point average, and is heading to Butler University in the fall.

But, like many students, she needed help covering the costs, so she turned to the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County, that administers hundreds of local college scholarships.

Freitag applied for and won the first ever Jennifer Copeland Memorial Scholarship. Ms. Kennedy Ward is the journalism teacher at Riley who's helped inspire Freitag to pursue her dream in an often difficult and demanding career.

ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Michiana lost beloved ABC57 News anchor Jennifer Copeland to a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer at the age of 46 in October 2024.

Now you can help us honor her memory and support the next generation of local journalists.
