ELKHART, Ind. -- On Monday, at approximately 12:09 a.m., Elkhart officers were dispatched to the area of 130 N. Main St to assist medics with a man who was located on the sidewalk on the Riverwalk, north of McDonald's, who was believed to be deceased, as he was unresponsive, unconscious, or breathing.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time the report was made, the deceased man had not been identified.

He has since been identified as 55-year-old Donald Shepherd.

This is an active and ongoing death investigation.
