City of Buchanan celebrates two new community recreation projects
BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The City of Buchanan held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Kathryn Park to celebrate the completion of two new community recreation projects.
The park will get a new playground and a new community disc golf course.
"I think this is just an amazing way for the people to get out on another side of town. They can come over here and walk their dogs, somebody else can go play disc golf, they can take turns," said Mark Weedon, Mayor of Buchanan.
The projects were made possible through strong partnerships between the city and the community.
Buckshot Disc Golf was made possible through a $10,000 Promoting Active Communities grant the city received through the Michigan Fitness Foundation.
"This is a good example of how recreation planning can bring together community input, available resources, and resident interests to create something meaningful," Jennifer Popielski, Buchanan Area Recreation Board.
Both Mayor Weedon and Popielski appreciated the work that went into the project.
"Thank you so much to the Barb who supported this, and the grant that came in to help really put this on the map," said Mayor Weedon
"We hope Buckshot Disc Golf becomes a popular destination for both new and experienced players and remains an important part of Buchanan's recreational offerings for many years," said Popielski.
