"Adopt a Family" program helps nearly 150 families Saturday

‘Tis the season to give back to the community.

On Saturday, the Salvation Army of St. Joseph County and the South Bend Kroc Center brought the holiday spirit to those who may be down on their luck and need a little help this season.

The "Adopt a Family" program is a tradition that allows families within our community to 'adopt' a family in need, buy gifts and other necessities.

"Sometimes people are living pay check to pay check and if there's an illness, accident, something happens, and now that check is missed it can put people behind a lot,” said Major Monty Wandling, Salvation Army.

Barb Gann, a 5-year volunteer for the program, says it’s a great feeling helping the community.

“It's an awesome feeling. These families are in need and they're so thankful for the help they receive,” said Gann.

Nearly 150 families were assisted.

If you would like to volunteer in the future, you can call, email, or stop by the Kroc Center.
