AHEPA Senior Living brings high-demand units for low-income seniors
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.--- An official grand opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting were held Friday for the AHEPA 100 Phase II apartments in St. Joseph County, just down the street from the ABC57 station, bringing much-needed units for low-income seniors.
The three-story building cost just over $20 million to develop, backed by the Greek Orthodox Order of AHEPA. Through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program, units are open to "very low-income" seniors 62 and older.
This is the third AHEPA Senior Living complex in Michiana, bringing the total to 89 developments in 19 states.
Ground broke in October 2024, and the first residents moved into their one-bedroom, one-bathroom units in December.
"We have 72 apartments here, and every single one of them is already filled. And we have been open since January, so very quickly. There's definitely a need for housing like this," said Sandra Dzankovic, AHEPA Senior Living's vice president of operations. "There are people already on the waiting list."
The 72-unit building is phase two of "AHEPA 100" and is located right next door to phase one, another 50-unit low-income AHEPA senior living complex.
