Alabama man charged with failure to register as a sex offender

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A man who was convicted of rape in Alabama was arrested at an apartment complex in South Bend for failure to register as a sex offender, according to court records.

A detective with the St. Joseph County Police Department received information Danny Jay Ryans was living at a local apartment complex, but had not registered as a sex offender.

Ryans was required to update his address and register within 72 hours of moving, reports said.

When Ryans spoke with detectives, he admitted he moved to Indiana from Alabama in 2018 and that he knew he was required to register, but failed to do so, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Ryans was charged with one count of failure to register.
