Allen County approves funds for emergency text alert system

Allen County approved the funds for a new AMBER Alert and emergency text notification system.

The county’s Consolidated Communication Partnership approved $34,000 for the software, Swift 911, on Tuesday afternoon.

ABC affiliate, Alive 21, reports the decision of the county was prompted after limited technology hindered the release of critical information in the abduction and murder case of 6-year-old Rene Pasztor and 7-year-old Liliana Hernandez in September.

Sources say the grandparents of the children wanted to start a Go-Fund-Me page for the new technology and county officials said they would accept whatever funds were raised.

Those who would like to receive the emergency texts will have to sign up with the Fort Wayne Police Department or the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
