American journalist beheaded by captors
SYRIA -- The militant group ISIS has released a video of American journalist James Foley being beheaded by his captors.
Foley disappeared in November 2012 in Syria.
The video was posted to YouTube and urges the United States to withdraw military operations in Iraq.
Foley is seen in the video kneeling next to a man dressed in black with a sign saying that his "real killer" is America.
"The intelligence community is working as quickly as possible to determine its authenticity. If genuine, we are appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent American journalist and we express our deepest condolences to his family and friends. We will provide more information when it is available," says the National Security Council.
The video shows another American journalist, Steven Sotloff, who was kidnapped near the Syria-Turkey border in 2013.
