Angler rescued after falling through the ice on O’Brien Lake

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Two people who were fishing on O’Brien Lake Wednesday afternoon were rescued after one of them fell through the ice and the other held onto him until first responders arrived, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded just after 3:30 p.m. and located a 76-year-old man who had fallen through the ice. His companion, a 59-year-old man, was on top of the ice holding the victim up with a rope.

A deputy made his way out onto the ice and held onto the victim until more help arrived.

When firefighters responded to the scene, the victim and others were brought to shore.

The two men suffered minor injuries and exposure from the cold water.
