Anonymous donor drops gold coin in Salvation Army kettle

For the past several years, an anonymous person drops a gold coin wrapped in a hundred dollar bill in the Salvation Army red kettle at the Sam's Club in Mishawaka.

This year was no exception.

A gold Krugerrand, a coin minted in South Africa, was wrapped in a crisp hundred dollar bill with a message.

Officer Karl Blessing with the Salvation Army says he is grateful for the donor year after year.

“Whoever put that gold coin in there, we do appreciate that. And we appreciate the message that was written on a piece of paper talking about peace. The greatest peace we can have is with God through his son," said Blessing.

The Krugerrand is highly sought after by collectors and has a price tag of roughly $1,200.
