Mishawaka Fire Department responds to building fire Wednesday morning
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- UPDATE TWO: The Mishawaka Fire Department reports a member of their ambulance crew spotted the fire at the Mill expansion while returning from a patient transport.
No injuries have been reported and at the last update, fire crews were putting out hot spots.
"We are grateful to the firefighters, police and other public safety from both Mishawaka and surrounding communities for responding to the fire at The Mill II at Ironworks Plaza," a spokesperson for the property owners said.
"Flaherty & Collins is fully committed to rebuilding and restoring what was lost as soon as we are able to do so. We will continue to provide updates as we work through the investigation process with city and fire officials."
The Mill expansion, named Mill II, is a mixed-use project with 226 apartments, 10,000 square feet of retail along with a 450-space parking garage, was planned to open in the next 60 days and does not currently have residents.

UPDATE: The Mishawaka Fire Department is continuing to battle hot spots on the southwest corner of the building with additional assistance from the South Bend Fire Department, Clay Fire Department, and Penn Fire Department.
This continues to be an active and ongoing scene.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Mishawaka Fire Department is on scene of a building fire early this morning.
The building located at West Front Street and North West Street is the Mill Phase II apartment expansion that is currently under construction.
These apartments are not currently occupied.
At least six Mishawaka Fire Department units are on scene responding, after being dispatched shortly before 3:10 a.m.
