App alerts users to child predators

Smartphone users have more power in the palm of their hands. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Home Security team launched the Operation Predator app for Apple and Android devices.

When it initially launched in September of 2013, officials say the results were almost immediate.

Within 36 hours, special agents were able to arrest a suspected predator.

"This app is one piece of our commitment to ensuring child predators have absolutely nowhere to hide," said Acting ICE Director Thomas Winkowski.

Users can get alerts about wanted predators and quickly share that information on social media.

The Operation Predator app has been downloaded more than 93,4000 times.

The app is also available in Spanish.
