Armed robberies reported at gas stations in Marcellus Tuesday
CASS COUNTY, Mich. – Two robberies took place within minutes of each other at two different gas stations in Marcellus on Tuesday, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At 5:43 p.m., deputies were called to the corner of Main and Burney Streets for a report of an armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station.
While information was being gathered on the first robbery, a second armed robbery call came in from the Mega Liquor Gas Station down the road on Main Street at 5:50 p.m.
Information gathered at the time indicated that the suspect was the same in both armed robberies, reports said.
In both robberies, the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, according to reports.
The first deputy arrived on scene at 5:51 p.m.
Within minutes of the second robbery, police from various agencies set up a perimeter for a K9 unit to search for the suspect, who left the scene on foot, reports said.
Investigators later determined that the suspect likely used a vehicle to leave the scene.
Investigators don’t yet know how much money was taken.
On Wednesday evening, the sheriff's office announced that a suspect was taken into custody in connection to the armed robberies.
No one was injured during the robberies.
A high school in the area and other businesses nearby were instructed to lock down during the initial investigation.
