Arrest made in crash that caused Niles power outage

Three men were arrested after the car they were in crashed in Niles early Tuesday morning. The crash caused several thousand residents to lose power.

According to deputies, around 4:15 a.m. they were called to the 2100 block of S. Third Street for a vehicle accident.

When they arrived, they found an older model Oldsmobile that slid off the road and struck a utility pole.

The pole broke and power lines were lying on the ground.

Witnesses on the scene told police the three people in the vehicle ran from the scene.

Deputies followed their footprints in the snow and located the three occupants in the 2100 block of S. 11th Street.

Investigators learned the Oldsmobile had been reported stolen in Elkhart.

Deputies said the accident was the cause of the power outage in Niles.

Jesse James Roberson has been charged with receiving and concealing stolen property over $1000 under $20,000, possession of marijuana and no valid operator’s license.

Shane Duane Jacobs has been charged with receiving and concealing stolen property over $1000 under $20,000.

Isaiah Ray Moutria has been charged with receiving and concealing stolen property over $1000 under $20,000.
