Palisades to restart with $1.5B federal loan
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Coroner has released the cause and manner of death of 10-year-old Jamal Turpin, who died Friday after swimming at Ideal Beach in Elkhart.
Turpin's cause of death was drowning and manner of death was accident.
Friday around 1 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officers responded to Heaton Lake for a water rescue.
A 9-year-old and Turpin were swimming at Ideal Beach when they began to struggle.
A lifeguard pulled the 9-year-old from the water, performed CPR and revived the boy.
Turpin was pulled from the water after lifeguards formed a human chain and located him underwater.
Both boys were taken to Elkhart General Hospital.
Turpin was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The 9-year-old is in fair condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
