Beachgoers flock to Lake Michigan to beat the heat

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- People flocked to the beaches in order to beat the heat.

ABC 57 News traveled to Silver Beach in Michigan on Thursday and found hundreds of folks looking to avoid the heat.

Some people woke up early to catch the waves. And others we talked to were just trying to find some relief from the heat.

"We came to see the lake and knew it'd be cooler than anywhere else, so we thought we'd come before it got hot," Rod Hartzler said.

The water temperature in St. Joseph was a refreshing 60 degrees.
