"Bears in the Air" raises money for Veteran's Center.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St Joseph County Airport Authority's "Bears in the Air" program wrapped up its first year in a big way by helping sick kids and veterans.

The airport authority was on hand to make a $5,000 donation to the Miller Veterans' Center Friday. All of the money was raised through the "Bears in the Air" program which also donated nearly 500 bears to kids in local hospitals.

Those involved says it's a great way to help those in need.

"It's nice to be able to help them get over that speed bump and back to a productive life," said David Sage, President St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board.

"What Mike and Dave and the airport has done for us is just absolutely amazing and outstanding and most appreciative for what we are doing with the residents here," said Kent Laudeman, Director Robert Miller Veterans' Center.

The donation will go toward supplies and  maintenance at the veteran's center..
