Benefit honors wounded war veteran

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Hundreds gathered at the FOP in Mishawaka tonight to benefit Lucas Oppelt.

He was struck by an I.E.D. in Afghanistan and lost a leg.

The Mishawaka community came out to raise money for his speedy recovery.

His wife is pregnant with their second son, and they need all the help they can get.

Lucas' mom speaks about how the tragedy affected her.

"I think my prayers have now changed and I pray much more daily for the ones that are still over there, and I would ask the community in that regard that those boys are still over there and we don't want to forget that," said Cheryl Soos, Lucas' Mother.
