Benton Harbor approves new track and boilers at high school, Fair Plain East Elementary to get new boilers
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education announced on Wednesday the approval of capital improvement projects "aimed at modernizing the district's facilities," school officials said.
"During the March 12 Board of Education meeting, board members approved the construction of a new track at Benton Harbor High School and finalized the requests for proposals on the construction of the boilers at Benton Harbor High School and Fair Plain East Elementary," said Chief Officer of Support Services for Benton Harbor Schools Paul Korson.
"The board has unanimously voted to invest in our students. These projects are not just an investment in our school's physical infrastructure but also a testament to our commitment to promoting the well-being of our students," said Board of Education President Dashuna Robinson.
Board of Education members see the new track as a venue for school events, community gatherings, and potentially regional athletic competitions, fostering a stronger sense of community and school spirit.
The boiler upgrades at Benton Harbor High School and Fair Plain East Elementary School are "critical to ensuring a comfortable and conducive learning environment by providing reliable heating during the colder months. The completion of this project is a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to maintain and improve our school facilities' efficiency and sustainability," Korson said.
"These initiatives underscore our dedication to providing a safe, healthy, and dynamic learning environment for all students and staff members," said Secretary Renaldo Tripplett, Chair of the Facilities Committee. "I am proud that we took the time to ensure we did what was needed for our children while working so hard in collaboration with our other board members.”
“As the Treasurer of the Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education, I would like to thank the Board of Education for their decisive action and unwavering support in approving these critical projects. I am Proud to be a BH Tiger," Angel Crayton said.
