Benton Harbor cemetery to exhume body to prove it was not misplaced

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- A family claimed a Benton Harbor cemetery misplaced their mom's body.

Now the cemetery is paying to prove their staff did not.

It is an update to a story we brought you last month.

On Thursday, the Crystal Springs Cemetery Board agreed to pay for Ruth Nichols' grave to be exhumed.

Her family thinks the cemetery mismarked the grave site.

The board said that's just not true and hopes this will finally put the matter to rest.

"The family needs to have closure on this and we need to have closure on this.  It's that simple.  It's the right thing to do," said Thom Golba of Crystal Springs Cemetery.

The exhumation is scheduled for next week.

The cemetery initially wanted the family to pay for it.
